Freedom Jazz Festival celebrates with Jazz for the People!
Join us August 13th at Minnehaha Falls Park as the Freedom Jazz Festival returns for its 11th year to bring you some
of the finest jazz music in the Twin Cities. This event has historically brought local and nationally known Jazz, world
beat, Blues, Gospel and R&B artists to perform free of charge against the lush beautiful backdrop of Minnehaha
Falls. Over the last decade this event has grown from a small community concert to one of the premiere events of the
summer and a Twin Cities favorite. Likewise the audiences have grown from a little over 300 in the first year to an
audience totaling almost four thousand in 2009. People attending the event range across every socio-economic and
ethnic stratum in the community making the event a musical bridge to many cultural gaps in our society.
The Freedom Jazz Festival is a volunteer based nonprofit organization dedicated to presenting, preserving and
promoting Jazz and its African American origins and historical experiences.
This year’s theme is “Jazz for the People” is a tribute to the essence of people that come together as one in
appreciation of Jazz, America’s music. We thank the many musicians, and community supporters who have made
this event such a success. We will be presenting another all star line-up of music and entertainment as well as art,
food and fun. Bring your family, friends, a picnic lunch and have a blast all afternoon!
